Sundays Sewing Space: Fresh Lemon Quilts

Yay time for a snoop and a rummage again, this week we have the lovely Faith from Fresh Lemon Quilts. Thank you Faith for taking the time to show us around, here goes

Where is your Sewing Space?
Although my house is in the suburbs, it is built like a city home - a small footprint with lots of levels and stairs.  My sewing space is on the third floor in an open area outside of a guest bedroom.

What 3 words do you feel best describes it?
Bright, airy, relaxing

What are your most important things in there?
For me, the most important things are my sewing machine, fabric and iron.  For the kids, the most important things are the train table and princess toys.

How is the room laid out?
When you walk up the stairs you are facing a large window.  There is a train table near it and a quilt hanging on the wall for decoration.  Turn left and you see my sewing table, bookcase, iron and design wall.  Ideally I would sit closer to the window to sew (I love natural light), but I set the space up so I can have an eye on the kids while they play.

The table I sew on is also my cutting table.  This table actually is supposed to be our dining room table.  When we moved to this house, we didn't have a dining room and the kitchen was too small for the table, so we put it in my sewing space.  It's a farm table made from reclaimed wood and I love it.  However, it is not totally level on top, and that can be a bit annoying for cutting.

Do you have anything in the room for inspiration?
I have some art and mini quilts hanging above my larger Ikea bookcase.  I also have some of my favorite solid fabrics stacked around the room to add color to the space.

Where do you keep your fabric stash and how do you organise it?
Some sets are on book shelves (my favorite solids, my Henna Garden, Art Gallery Dots,  and Pearl Bracelet collections).  But most are kept in flat plastic storage containers.  They are organized mostly by color, but I do have a separate container for both my Denyse Schmidt and Heather Ross collections.

Do you have any top tips to do with work spaces?
Try to clean up at least once every few months.  If only I followed my own advice!  I did obviously clean up for these photos and I am happy I did.  It makes for a much more relaxing sewing experience.

What would your ideal workspace look like/be?
I really love my work space and wouldn't change much.  Someday I would like to frame out my design wall.  Right now it's just a piece of batting tacked to the wall.  I also would like a little computer desk with a filing cabinet.  But overall I am very lucky to have a dedicated space, it is my sanctuary.

Thanks Faith. Well I dont know about you lot but im loving Faith's space, so much lovely natural light and a place she can create while her children play, I love that! Not to mention some lovely inspiration and great piles of fabric!

Faiths posted about some great quilt block tutorials recently, theres some lovely ones and links to them all, you should definitely check them out. Speaking of tutorials I will be posting a tutorial for making zipper pouches for this weeks Tutorial Tuesday, and if you have used a tut this week then head over on Tuesday to link up.

What a great space! I love that the kids have space to play without being on top of her, but still bring with her....Need to put my thinking cap on....

Oooh, love all that natural light! I have 2 windows in my room, but as it's south facing, if I open the curtains I get blinded :o/ I just keep very light curtains instead

My dining room table isn't totally level either. It's a cutting annoyance for sure! But I do love having the machine, cutting, and my ironing space all together.

It's so pretty and bright in there! I love the slanted ceiling, too!

In the future, maybe could you ask people to say a little about their sewing machines? I'm always peering at the sewing machine pictures because I'm curious about what other people use. :)
